Amazon Quantum Research Scientist, AWS MAS2 in Pasadena, California

Description

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

The AWS Center for Quantum Computing is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, all working to innovate in quantum computing for the benefit of our customers.

We are looking to hire a Research Scientist to explore new ideas in fault-tolerance and to support experimental efforts with error correction expertise and simulations. Candidates with a track record of original scientific contributions and/or software development experience will be preferred. We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles and resourcefulness. Organization and communication skills are essential.

Key job responsibilities

-Develop and evaluate new ideas in quantum error correction, including new codes and fault-tolerant protocols

-Explore how novel qubit architectures might enable error correction

-Support experimental quantum error correction through advice and simulation

-Work with other members of the qec team to extend our qec software tools

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience

  • Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products

  • Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language

  • Experience with agile development

  • Experience building web based dashboards using common frameworks

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
