Banking & Trust Services (BTS) is the business enterprise within Schwab overseeing Charles Schwab Bank and the Charles Schwab trust companies. The BTS organization offers deposit, loan and trust products to Schwab clients who are looking for holistic wealth management solutions that complement their brokerage activities. The integrated banking and brokerage services represent the strong value proposition we offer our clients.

The Bank Platform Managing Director is critical to the success of Schwab’s Banking and Trust Services (BTS) in supporting our clients and key business partner initiatives. The Bank Platform Director is expected to manage a team of Technical Product Management employees, business analysts and solutions architects with focus on one or more banking systems/platforms (deposit, lending, trust, etc.). The Bank Platform Managing Director will partner closely with line functional teams to understand industry and regulatory trends, must have broad knowledge of stakeholder needs, a good grasp of software solutions and in depth knowledge of the systems they manage. They will leverage this knowledge to produce and manage system requirements (user stories) for their Scrum team(s) and oversee/approve business requirement (non-Agile) to ensure business objectives are met and exceeded. The Bank Platform Managing Director is responsible for their system(s) but must also understand cross-system and domain dependencies and interactions within the Bank and across the broader Schwab organization.
What you’ll do:
Partner with technology to develop and socialize a strategic roadmap and system plan within the context of critical stakeholder needs, pain points and business impact.
Review and analyze relevant client, business stakeholder and market information.
Gather feedback from and help represent frontline Schwab Bank and Brokerage staff.
Prioritize future initiatives based on feasibility, market, stakeholder, regulatory and financial impact.
Socialize system roadmap plan among key stakeholders
Strive to ensure continuous alignment of stakeholder teams with system roadmap
Challenge assumptions and encourage critical thinking across all stakeholder groups
When operating in the Agile environment, act as the System Product Owner for Scrum team(s) that develop the system solutions for which the bank is accountable.
Develop, adapt and convey the system and project vision to your Scrum team(s), technology partners and vendor partners/dependents.
Responsible for decision and oversight of what to develop, as well as what not to develop, through ordering and grooming the system backlog
Provide and receive feedback through participation in Scrum activities including daily Scrum meetings, Sprint Review, backlog grooming, release planning and Sprint planning
Write user stories, epics and features and/or oversee and approve those written by others.
Ensure acceptance criteria is established for each user story.
Accept the completion of user stories as they are demonstrated by the Scrum team
Daily responsibilities include: communicate ongoing risks, scope trade-offs, timeline impacts and budget impacts to stakeholders to ensure alignment
Account for technical debt and prioritization between technical approach and business initiatives
Support business implementation process for new and/or enhanced system features.
Coordinate deployment, testing, certification and communication of new or enhanced services with Banking and Trust Services teams.
Coordinate deployment, testing, certification and communication of new or enhanced services with all impacted vendors.
Organize training and support to frontline staff as appropriate.
Ensure appropriate production support for deployed systems
Maintain systems to ensure ongoing stakeholder and end client satisfaction and continued achievement of business goals and objectives.
Partner with technology to establish service level agreements that address product scale, availability and performance standards.
Obtain stakeholder feedback on enhancements and defects. Manage the process for prioritizing these to maximize business benefits.
Capture qualitative and quantitative metrics for defining system performance and success.
Incorporate and support Data Governance for the system(s) managed.
Help organize and participate in Data Governance activities including data consumption reviews
Track application consumption and usage of system(s) data and services for data lineage purpose
Document data and other system inputs to the system(s) and services managed
Work closely with the future Bank Data Steward to help define and maintain data for the system
What you have:
5 years of experience leading development of products and systems in a large, complex enterprise environment
5+ years of experience managing staff preferred
Broad knowledge of the overall Schwab organization
Have and develop a strong network of contacts across Schwab to leverage existing and developing capabilities firm-wide
Ability to gather information from multiple sources (internal, primary and secondary research) and synthesize them to uncover trends that draw out relevant and actionable conclusions.
Be able to conceptualize solutions that leverage current technologies through the understanding of industry trends, internal business drivers, client needs and vendor capabilities
Translate needs and business imperatives from product vision and roadmaps for use in setting priorities and guiding the work of the Scrum team(s) or from the overall Bank Platform team
Ability to think and act creatively by stepping outside standard convention and identify potential “out of the box” solutions.
Apply management and collaboration skills to orchestrate and maximize the work and deliverables of cross-organization and cross-functional teams assigned to product initiatives.
Possess the ability to maintain focus, and drive results in all business cycles and environments. Demonstrate adaptability when projects need to deviate from original plans or shift direction based on changing needs, priorities and funding.
Be a great listener – Understand the value of listening to client needs and vendor capabilities. Have the ability to understand the deeper underlying problem that needs to be addressed.

Possess a thorough understanding and appreciation for the Agile values and principles and apply them at various levels depending on the approach appropriate for each platform project/challenge
Thorough understanding of and proven ability to:
Write user stories and acceptance criteria
Split large stories into smaller stories
Groom the backlog
Conduct Release planning
Conduct Sprint planning when appropriate
Navigate the review activities (sprint and releases)
Strong grasp of software development and technology.
Scrum Product Owner certification
Prior experience using Jira
MS Office skills including Visio and PowerPoint
