Our Opportunity:

The Retirement Plan Services (RPS) business of Charles Schwab is a 401(k) service provider to approximately 1.5 million company retirement plan participants. By meeting the needs for workplace investing, Schwab RPS assists and supports plan sponsors with effectively delivering retirement investment solutions for their employees. As part of the overall RPS plan sponsor services team, the Retirement Investment Services group is responsible for supporting plan sponsor clients on investment-related matters. Examples of support services include: assisting current clients in the creation and monitoring of plan investment menus, delivering periodic investment reviews, providing capital market updates and commentary on industry topics and trends, as well as other related consulting. The group also performs investment manager research that supports the creation and monitoring of the Schwab Focus List, existing client inquiries and new business initiatives.

What you’ll do:

In this role, the Investment Research Analyst will perform two primary functions

  1. Perform investment manager research that supports new business opportunities at Schwab RPS.

Responsibilities include:

  • Complete assigned Request For Proposal (RFP) and Fund Selection Form analysis within stated deadlines

  • Perform required investment manager research to develop rationale for fund selection when creating investment menus for prospects

  • Develop and foster relationships with internal partners (Sales/Business Acceptance) and third party advisors

  • Responsible for all investment related topics/questions/responses throughout the RFP process

  1. Support a team of research analysts who produce internal and external investment-related deliverables for plan sponsor clients and their advisors.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct and/or indirect support of asset category/class research

  • Assist in production of research deliverables used during investment committee meetings

  • Participate/lead due diligence meetings with fund companies

  • Assist with the fulfillment of research report requests from the primary research team

  • Involvement in projects that align with key business initiatives

  • General support of the primary research team that could include, but is not limited to:

  • Submitting Request for Proposals (RFIs) on an annual basis to asset managers

  • Setting up calls with fund company partners on a routine basis

  • Communicating fund company announcements to a team of client facing consultants

  • Investment manager screens

  • Index licensing support

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

  • 5+ years of industry experience required, 1-3 years of investment manager research experience preferred

  • Possess or working towards Series 7 / 66 and/or CFA

  • Possess strong knowledge of the financial markets, macro-economic factors, risk/return fundamentals, and portfolio theory

  • Ability to interact with high level executives, management, sales, consultants and mutual fund company representatives

  • Effective oral and written communication skills and participating as a member of a team

  • Familiarity with Morningstar Direct and/or Advisor Workstation desktop software is preferred

  • Strong client servicing skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
