The Role

Applies advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts, and technologies to solve unusually complex problems and issues within the Department of the Interior (DOI) network infrastructure. Leads developing, evaluating, and implementing new and innovative principles, processes, and applications while ensuring effective support for AES engineers in their respective roles and responsibilities.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced engineering and network principles to address complex problems within the DOI network infrastructure.

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of innovative solutions to enhance network efficiency and performance.

  • Provide support and guidance to AES engineers in their roles, ensuring effective execution of responsibilities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate technical requirements into actionable plans and solutions.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continually enhance network capabilities, firewall configurations, and security measures.

  • Conduct thorough analysis and troubleshooting of network issues, employing best practices and methodologies to resolve them promptly.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of network architecture, configurations, and procedures to facilitate efficient operations and knowledge transfer within the team.

  • Develop new configurations for Cisco, Juniper, and Fortinet devices, ensuring alignment with network requirements and standards.

  • Conduct thorough testing of configurations to validate functionality and performance before implementation.

  • Implement approved configurations across network devices, ensuring seamless integration and adherence to established protocols.

  • Troubleshoot configuration-related issues, employing best practices and methodologies to resolve them promptly and minimize disruption to network operations.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in network engineering or related roles, with a focus on advanced engineering principles and technologies.

  • In-depth knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, and Fortinet devices, including experience in creating configurations, conducting testing, implementing changes, and troubleshooting issues.

  • Strong understanding of network design principles and methodologies, with proven experience in developing and implementing innovative solutions to enhance network efficiency and performance.

Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$94420 - $125890 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

$99390 - $132510 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

$104360 - $139140 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

$109330 - $145770 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
