Meta Lead UXR Manager, FAIR in San Francisco, California

Summary:

FAIR is Meta’s AI Research Lab. Our organization pursues Artificial General Intelligence while also creating new experiences that demonstrate the latest AI breakthroughs. We work across several domains of AI including Language, Perception and Embodied AI, and our investments aim to serve all of Meta, including both FoA and Reality Labs.We’re looking for a Research Leader who can support a small team of UXRs while also leading strategic IC work for the org. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who is passionate about the future of AI and excited to scale their expertise through a small team of direct reports.

Required Skills:

Lead UXR Manager, FAIR Responsibilities:

  1. Manage UXR for projects across several domains including Language, Perception and Embodied AI

  2. Build and manage high-performing teams with researchers of different disciplines.

  3. Independently manage day-to-day activities and complex situations. Identify problems and solutions around escalations.

  4. Set clear expectations and goals for direct reports and collective team while holding individuals and team accountable for success.

  5. Build and develop a research toolkit that extends across all levels of complexity.

  6. Successfully partner with other research teams across the Meta Platforms Inc. organization.

  7. Build strong relationships with other research teams at Meta Platforms Inc. to ensure a cohesive and cross-functional vision for Research at Meta Platforms Inc.

  8. Become a trusted, strategic partner to product stakeholders by communicating and demonstrating the value of user research, and by delivering insights that lead to demonstrable business value.

  9. Partner with the recruiting organization to build diverse teams and inclusive environments.

  10. Provide clear, actionable feedback and support to develop and grow individuals

  11. work closely with underperformers to help them meet expectations.

  12. Determine team composition, placement decisions and hiring strategy.

  13. Mentor other managers (research or cross-functional) at multiple levels.

  14. Resource Allocation - ensure we are always focusing on the highest priority things, focusing both on the short term needs as well as looking ahead to the next big challenge.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or significant experience conducting UX research with meaningful business impact

  2. 10+ years of experience conducting and/or studying research post-Bachelor’s degree

  3. 2+ years of experience directly managing, coaching and developing full-time researchers

  4. Experience directly managing across different research methodologies

  5. Experience directly conducting primary research (qualitative and quantitative) end-to-end (i.e., designing, fielding, analyzing and reporting out data)

  6. Experience building teams over time through hiring, growing, and retaining high-performing researchers

  7. Track record of translating research into business impact

  8. Experience working with a variety of cross-functional peers and stakeholders (e.g., product managers, data scientists, designers, engineers, policy, communications, marketing)

  1. Experience working in AI/ML or a complex product area is a benefit but not required

  2. Experience conducting research in the AR/VR space or other future technologies

  3. Experience with 0->1 innovations

  4. Strong multi-tasker, knowledge to make the right trade-offs against competing priorities

  5. Excellent communication, synthesis and storytelling skills

Public Compensation:

$163,000/year to $226,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
