Reports To: Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis

Location: San Jose, CA (Hybrid)

Salary Range: $165,000 to $175,000

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education and experience. THE FINANCE TEAM

Our projects may be complex, but our approach is simple: we build great things and we do it with great people. The Finance team at Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) provides employees, stakeholders and customers with timely and accurate financial information. The Finance Department is comprised of six teams: Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Billing, Collections, Payroll, Tax, and FP&A that work closely together to ensure compliance and the financial well-being of the company.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Develops, interprets and implements financial concepts for financial planning and control. Performs technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for financial plans, acquisition activity, trended future requirements and operating forecasts.

  • Lead in the preparation of the quarterly Board of Directors presentation deck.

  • Produce monthly income statements in Excel for various internal departments, including variance analysis.

  • Produce other month-end reports as needed.

  • Participate in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecast process. Maintain and enhance files used to support the budget.

  • Continually seek out ways to improve the quarterly Board of Directors presentation by adding new content and streamlining existing content.

  • Take over, or initiate, analysis that can drive the company to better performance, including on subjects such as compensation, small projects, regional growth, the public infrastructure segment, and the company’s revenue dependency on key customers.

  • Participate in the development of the data warehouse.

  • Respond to requests from various business partners for financial information and analysis.

  • Partner closely with business leads including VP's to build and maintain rolling revenue forecasts and project pipeline reporting and analysis.

Knowledge: Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

Job Complexity: Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.

Supervision: Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).

ABOUT YOU

  • Advanced use of Excel, including solid to advance use of pivot tables. Strong PowerPoint skills.

  • The ability to tell a story, using graphs, tables and written narrative, often in the form of PowerPoint files.

  • Uncover insightful stories to tell about the business using an evolving knowledge of the company and the industry.

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to be brief and concise.

  • Strong oral communication skills during meetings. Full presentations are rare.

  • Ability to learn new software quickly.

  • The ability to work independently, to hit the ground running and take tasks from inception to a finished product with little oversight.

  • A proactive mindset.

  • A background in audit, investment banking or similar is useful.

  • Familiarity with query tools is preferred, including possibly Access, Business Objects query tool, visual SQL editors etc. Familiarity with basic SQL statements is useful

  • Familiarity with the principals of dimensional data modelling is preferred eg the Kimball methodology. A data governance background is useful.

  • A solid understanding of accounting principles is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. MBA and/or CPA preferred.

Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent experience.
