SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking to hire a full-time Nontraditional Career Advisor in their Career Services Department. The Career Advisor provides career, employment, and educational advising and referral services to students and potential students on an individual and/or group basis with special emphasis on non-traditional career and technical program recruitment, completion and placement. In addition, the Career Advisor facilitates networking between students and career professionals for purposes of career exploration, mentoring, field experience, and long-term job placement and provides follow up services to ensure positive student outcomes. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Career Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide life-career guidance in regard to career decision making and planning with a strong emphasis on increasing awareness of, and interest in, careers non-traditional to gender.

• Provide educational advisement in regard to academic choices, academic support services and experiential learning options.

• Develop learning experiences and working relationships with various departments of the college in regard to nontraditional careers and special populations.

• Coordinate the Federal Work Study employment process for on and off campus work sites.

• Maintain partnerships and network with community employers and agencies. Assist in maintaining the office database/jobs board.

• Provide related classroom instruction as needed regarding non-traditional career related fields.

• Utilize related technology-based systems in order to provide information and services to students, faculty, community partners and employers.

• Participate in recruitment, advisement and registration related activities as needed.

• Participate in and/or coordinate projects related to career exploration and identification, mentoring, development of internships and career shadowing experiences.

• Develop and distribute information and resources targeted to students seeking careers in non-traditional fields as well as other special populations within the college community.

• Coordinate workshops and events pertaining to career readiness, job and internship search, and employment resources.

• Assist in the promotion of career services, events, and activities with special emphasis on those related to non-traditional careers and special populations.

  Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate's Degree in guidance and counseling, student personnel or related field and a minimum of two years of experience in the area of human resources, education, counseling or employment related services.

• Familiarity with MS Office, Office 365, Adobe, and cloud based social media and marketing sites as well as database/CSM programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher and 2 years of Higher Education experience in a student support role such as Career Services, Advising, Coaching, or other support program or services.

• Demonstrated experience in Career Development and Experiential learning activities as well as MBTI or similar certification.

Salary: $41,667 per year
