Amazon’s OpEx Accounting team is responsible for providing oversight over the global operating expenditures of the company, in addition to supporting the consumer business with their monthly OpEx spend. This role will partner across global OpEx accounting and project management teams, finance, tech, and business partners to lead management of various aspects of accounting month-end close, controllership initiatives, and new projects. The ideal candidate will have experience operating in a complex, high-growth stage, multi-disciplinary organization. The candidate will possess an ability to influence members of cross-functional teams to design, develop and deliver operationalization of complex accounting projects. The candidate will also have technical accounting experience and the ability to clearly present key accounting concepts to leadership. This person will have operated successfully in a fast-paced, and results-oriented environment. Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial, as well as ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope business requirements and prioritize.

Key job responsibilities

• Support various aspects of our accounting and reporting process.

• Ability to develop and provide accounting requirements to operationalize complex accounting concepts at scale.

• Understand internal control design concepts sufficient to assess control effectiveness and to design new processes and controls for emerging and growing business activities.

• Execute judgment to keep projects moving and ensure the right decisions are reached to accurately support financial results.

• Ability to drive process improvement and automation opportunities across the organization.

• Lead delivery of multi-year projects including challenging initiatives where path forward may not be defined.

• Research, conclude and memorialize technical accounting position papers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

  • 3+ years of directly managing and leading a team of 5+ members experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA

  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency

  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification

  • Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients

  • Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $111,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $207,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
