Seattle Children’s Hospital Senior Communications Specialist, Public Relations in Seattle, Washington

Responsibilities: Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: providing marketing and/or communications support for Seattle Children's organization-wide projects and initiatives, and providing communications consultation and support to leaders, clients and work teams for projects and initiatives that span multiple audiences and vehicles. May involve initiating, developing, coordinating, implementing and/or evaluating marketing and/or communication plans related to these projects and initiatives. Other responsibilities may include content development for channels including newsletters, blogs, presentations, key messages, etc.; assisting with production and distribution of internal and/or external publications/collageral; updating content on Seattle Children's intranet and/or external website; project management; message development for senior leaders; helping mentor and train teammates; and communication support during crisis situations. Roles in the following teams rotate 24/7 on-call responsibilities with their teammates: Internal communications; Patient and Family Education and Communications; Public Engagement; and Research MarComm. Sr. communications specialists who are part of other teams may have infrequent on-call responsibilities, as needed. #LI-JC1 Job Posting Addendum: Job Summary The senior public relations specialist will manage and assist with various functions within the public engagement team. They will provide strategic project management, oversight, and communications coordination for hospital, research and foundation public relations initiatives. This person will: collaborate with stakeholders to identify compelling stories and manage, develop and pitch content for Seattle Children's; develop external communications strategies and responses for crises and issues; oversee proactive and reactive media relations in order to secure local, regional and national media coverage. This includes, developing media target lists and pitches, developing talking points, working with internal clients and teams, patients and their families and coordinating interviews, leading media training sessions for spokespeople; and take on other duties as assigned. They will also assist in leading and mentoring staff and team members. This role also splits 24/7 on-call shifts with other members of the PR and social media team. The senior public relations specialist will have an exceptional attention to detail, excellent writing and editing skills and an ability to produce high-quality content in a timely manner. They will also be flexible, proactive, willing to take on new challenges and have the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and under pressure. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the local, national and industry media landscape and experience working with news media. Proven ability to work with diverse groups. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills. Excellent project and time management skills. Excellent written communications and editing skills. Ability to distill complex information and concepts for media and storytelling purposes Planning, materials development, and group facilitation skills. Able to take direction, be flexible, work independently, manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines under pressure. Proficient in social media across platforms Able to work with and represent executive management, providers and clients. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner. Proficient in MS Office suite of products Requirements: Required Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English or related field.
