Walmart Staff Software Engineer - Backend (AdTech) in Sunnyvale, California

What you'll do...

About the team:

As part of Walmart's Display Ad Server Backend team, you will be building highly scalable and reliable APIs, services and applications which will drive the next generation of social commerce experiences. You'll independently handle high impact, critical software/systems monitoring issues, troubleshoot business and production issues. As a member of this fast-moving and highly entrepreneurial team, you'll be able to say that you work for the world's largest retailer and contribute to innovation and development to best-in-class methodologies that impacted perception and drastically changed business as we know it.

What You'll Do

  • Design & develop highly scalable services and solve complex software systems problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology.

  • Gain exposure to various emerging technologies used in Advertising and E-commerce platforms.

  • Provide technical direction, architecture leadership and expertise to the team.

  • Lead by example. Show your chops as an exceptional and experienced developer.

  • Drive projects of high visibility across the organization.

  • Participate in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project, product and business requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirement); designing robust and scalable architectures; writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with cross functional teams; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; enhancing design to prevent re-occurrences of defects; ensuring on-time delivery;

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in Computer Science (or related field) and 8+ years of experience building scalable ecommerce applications

  • Experience in internet-scale distributed technologies (e.g. Solr, Kafka, Mem Cache, etc.)

  • Relevant experience with relational and no-sql databases (e.g. MySQL, Oracle, Cassandra, etc.)

  • Advanced knowledge of complex software design, distributed system design, design patterns, data structures and algorithms.

  • Ability to explain complex subjects in layman's terms.

  • Experience with distributed version control like Git or similar

  • Familiarity with continuous integration/deployment processes and tools such as Jenkins and Maven.

  • Strong experience interfacing with Web Services platforms

  • Strong expertise in development of scalable cloud native microservices

  • Strong expertise in designing and building APIs

  • Strong expertise with Cloud Technologies like Azure and GCP

  • Strong Expertise in Java, Scala, Object Oriented & Functional Programming, Design Patterns

Even Better if You Have:

  • Experience in advertising domain.

  • Extensive knowledge of open-source libraries, design patterns and micro-service architecture. Familiarity with CI/CD and unit testing

  • Experience in production system operations (logging, telemetry, alerting etc.)

  • The keen eyes for detail and desire to learn, win, collaborate, and relish a challenge.

  • Strong inclination towards exploring and learning new technologies.

  • Designed, built, and maintained APIs, services of highly scalable platforms.

  • Proficient in Apache Hadoop, Map-reduce, Apache Spark, and in messaging Systems as Kafka

  • Familiar with workflow management systems like airflow or oozie.

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and alerting solutions like Prometheus, Graphite, alerts manager and Splunk.

  • Understanding of machine learning.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
