Description of Duties:

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, NY, invites applications for a full-time Senior Staff Assistant (Coordinator of Leadership Development and Student Organizations). The Coordinator of Leadership Development and Student Organizations plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and engaged student community at SUNY ESF. This position is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to student organizations, clubs, and individuals to enhance their leadership skills, personal development, and organizational success. The Coordinator will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to create an environment that promotes leadership, inclusivity, and student development. The Coordinator is a key member of the team in Office of Student Success and Engagement, is a staff member in the Division of Student Affairs, and will report directly to the Director of Student Success and Engagement. Evening and weekend work is required.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate all aspects of the Emerging Leaders program, or similar leadership development programming, develop learning outcomes, implement sessions, and conduct assessments.

  • Plan, execute, and assess the Fall Leadership Empowerment Retreat including on-going check-in meetings throughout the year with the attendees.

  • Support student award and recognition events and assist in the co-facilitation of College-wide award processes including Robin Hood Oak Awards and Student Organization Awards Ceremony (SOLAR).

  • Manage the selection of the Commencement student speaker and class marshals.

  • Coordinate inventory and track usage data of the ESF Food Pantry (Beth's Bounty)

  • Serve as advisor and administrative representative to Undergraduate Student Association (MOSA- Mighty Oak Student Assembly) including the approval of budget expenditures and support of the annual USA (MOSA) audit process.

  • Savings Accounts

  • Budget Actuations (Quickbooks)

  • Student engagement software (Anthology Engage)

  • Conduct student club and organization training in programming and event planning, College policies/procedures, liability, travel, leadership development, and team development.

  • Train club leadership and advisors about the use of and participant tracking using the Engage platform.

  • Conduct club advisor training sessions and manage advising paperwork.

  • Oversee all club budgets, and provide communication with the Business Office.

  • Actively participate in staff meetings and retreats, and Student Affairs programs.

  • Assist with major College and Division events and initiatives to include:

  • New and Transfer Student Orientation (August and January) including Saturday of Service

  • Facilitating a section of first-year seminar to support the transition of new students in the fall

  • Convocation (December and May)

  • Undergraduate Recruitment Events

  • Family Weekend

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in a college setting.

  • Previous experience mentoring/advising/coaching students.

  • Knowledge and understanding of student activity programs such as event planning, student organization management, community service, and leadership development.

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to relate effectively with members of the campus community.

  • Ability to function autonomously and as a team member within a collegial setting.

  • Experience using databases and other technology, particularly Microsoft Office and Teams software.

  • Demonstrate sound decision-making and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • A clean and valid driver's license is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree program in student personnel higher education, business, human services, or related area

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in a college setting.
