Canadian Tire Solutions Architect in Toronto, Ontario

What you’ll do

We are looking for a results-driven, experienced, and innovative Solution Architect to lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive legacy modernization program. The Solution Architect will play a crucial role in driving the transformation of our legacy systems to modern, scalable, and efficient architectures, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical standards.

As a member of the Architecture Team, you will help Lead the architectural design and planning of legacy modernization initiatives, including rehosting, rearchitecting, and refactoring of applications and systems. You play a key role working with our business teams to understand requirements and helping guide our technical leads and technical architects to build reliable and scalable solutions that meets business needs.

While this role is not a hand-on coder, we are looking for candidates with recent experience as part of a delivery organization, who can get into the implementation details of solutions as required.

  • Lead solution discussions with multiple team members and drive the discussion and outcomes

  • Analyze existing legacy systems to identify opportunities for modernization, improvements, and potential risks

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, delivery leads, and technical teams to define and understand business requirements, technical constraints, and project objectives

  • Create high level and detailed technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, system workflows, data flows, and integration patterns

  • Provide leadership to teams on architectural best practices and patterns and how to apply them to solutions

  • Work closely with development teams to provide guidance and ensure adherence to architectural best practices during the implementation phase

  • Collaborate with testing teams to define testing strategies and ensure the quality and reliability of modernized systems

  • Dive deep to troubleshoot when needed and clearly communicate your findings and proposed solutions

  • Drive the adoption of modern technology stacks and practices, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in legacy modernization and architecture.

    What you bring

  • Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience

  • 7+ years I.T. experience in progressive analysis and design related positions with 3+ years experience working in an architect/system design role

  • Experience with modern stacks including cloud, data pipelines, microservices, containers, CI/CD

  • Experience interpreting and applying security best practices to create, harden and secure infrastructure and applications

  • Experience with identity management, authentication, and authorization

  • Experience with event-driven/reactive architectures and integrations

  • Experience with batch and API based system to system integrations

  • Experience using and developing RESTful services

  • Understanding of TLS/SSL, encryption, and key management principles

  • Adept at balancing the immediate needs of a project (business requirements and business strategy) with Enterprise Architecture standards and the declared IT target state to achieve a win-win situation

  • Experience working closely with both Business and IT stakeholders, and proven experience in building and managing professional relationships and consensus-building throughout all levels of an organization

  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Exceptional skills in facilitating meetings, interviewing, probing, and influencing others

  • Ability to create and deliver effective presentations and briefings up to Senior Management / Executive levels

  • Sound knowledge of technical architecture, virtualized, Cloud-native, and SaaS implementation

  • Demonstrated ability to think and communicate in both abstract and concrete concepts, and to do so appropriately for the audience

  • Working knowledge of and enthusiasm for the Agile/SCRUM project approach

  • Experience in the Retail industry is an asset

  • Experience building and supporting Legacy Modernization initiatives in an asset
