Position Overview:

The Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will build and lead a team of manufacturing engineers, including hiring, managing, training, and mentoring the team members. This position willwork closely with executives, project managers, engineering leaders, as well as manufacturing personnel to deliver manufacturing engineering projects within the company. This position will also serve as the senior manufacturing engineer within the company and will provide technical leadership on the most important projects.

Key Job Duties:

  • Build and lead a team of manufacturing engineers to provide manufacturing concept and process solutions for the manufacturing team.
  • Leads the development and assembly of prototypes on new projects that are sent external to the company.
  • Leads the development and use of test fixtures and test systems for manufacturing.
  • Leads the layout of equipment and floor space in the manufacturing areas.
  • Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing Initiatives inside the company
  • The role will require the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic/fast-paced work environment.
  • Manage and assign Manufacturing Engineering resources to project roles and requirements as requested by the engineering and manufacturing leaders in the company.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to all manufacturing engineering staff.
  • Hires new Manufacturing Engineers as needed
  • Counsel, mentor and assist with Manufacturing Engineers that are performing below the expected standards
  • Report on metrics that measure the impact of manufacturing engineering team on the larger organization and uses the metrics to guide decision making
  • Interface with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and executive management as needed
  • Function as Manufacturing Engineering lead on the most important projects.
  • Stay abreast of changes in technology that will improve the company's technical capabilities.
  • Create leaner, more efficient and more profitable business practices.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in engineering or a closely related field
  • 6 years of engineering work experience, including 3 years of experience in a leadership capacity, or a combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.
  • Engineering experience in low volume/high mix manufacturing environments.
  • Experience building and testing hardware prototypes to optimize performance and manufacturability.
  • Experience with manufacturing electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S and other process improvement methodologies.
