About the role and what you’ll be doing:

The expert level capacity planner role has principal responsibilities for managing multiple mainframe client accounts to ensure optimal performance. These responsibilities include development of repeatable processes for providing KPI metrics aligned with organizational and client commitments. A core function is to identify and perform detail analyses which result in recommendations to both Ensono and client on how to achieve the best performance on their mainframe compute environment. This senior planner will also be engaged to support diagnostics and resolution contributing to incident root cause investigation. Performance analysis using internally developed tools/processes and vendor products to increase efficiency through automation and/or standard processes, as appropriate. Stays engaged with industry trends, products and service offerings, which are relevant to existing and emerging technologies. The planner will also interact with other technologies, such as storage, virtual tape, and network in support of the client environment.

The Expert Capacity Planner will be engaged in critical capacity projects and support core company strategic initiatives. Will be involved in both existing client support, as well as onboarding new clients. The expert planner will also provide mentoring, technical leadership and guidance to other planners within the organization.

Key Areas of Focus for this Role

  • Mainframe experience (z-series, zos operating system etc.)

  • Mainframe scripting/programing experience, utilizing JCL and/or other coding languages

  • Statistical tool like SAS, MXG expertise

  • Manage multiple projects with minimal support and shifting priorities

  • Support multiple client environments each having unique requirements and requests

  • Understanding of SMF data flow

  • Weekend support infrequent but possible (1 out of 10 weekends)

  • Support team on-call rotation

  • KPI identification and definition

  • Developing client forecasting models

  • Mainframe resources should possess zCP3000 experience

  • Perform Analytical Modeling with tools used to right-size solutions

  • Mainframe resources IBM pricing concepts and SCRT experience

  • Perform comprehensive impact analysis of system performance parameters on the OS and support subsystems

  • Proficient in identifying performance issues

  • Client Onboarding and outmigration project support responsibilities

  • Provides mentoring, technical consultation, training, and knowledge sharing to other associates and organizations

  • Lead and mentor on high complexity assignments to other associates on the team

  • Establish strong relationships with teams and outsource partners through continuous dialogue and support

  • Define, engineer, and deploy automation solutions for capacity team supported processes

  • Microsoft Office proficiency

  • Senior level verbal and written communication skills

Your experience and skills

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent work experience

  • Understands the competitive Mainframe landscape from both a business and technical perspective (especially capacity and performance)
