Our Opportunity:

In Corporate Operational Risk, our purpose is to govern, oversee, and continually improve the operational risk program through supporting and challenging business partners and raising risk awareness and understanding to improve risk based decision making. We look to minimize operational risk impacts across all of the firm and its subsidiaries and affiliates. We do this through fostering a risk culture consistent with the core values of the firm of loyalty, One Schwab, operating discipline and innovation.

Under the umbrella of Data, Infrastructure, and Reporting, The Data Team seeks to hire a quantitative analyst to support Corporate Operational Risk by applying statistical methods to structured and potentially unstructured data to help drive effective business decisions.

What you’ll do:

  • Apply statistical knowledge to analyze data and conduct experiments, interpret and summarize the results

  • Drive business impact by influencing management with data-driven recommendations that are actionable

  • Build relationships with business partners and maximize cross-functional resources to support a fact-driven and "through clients' eyes" decision-making culture

  • Create and deliver high-impact presentations in PowerPoint and clearly communicate methodologies and results

  • Assist in the development of tools to perform on-going reporting, analysis, and tracking

  • Create written procedures and documentation of various analytic processes

Business Requirements/Competencies:

  • Ability to review, summarize, and analyze data via standard statistical methods as well as to develop new, analytical solutions relative to the specific requirements and datasets of interest;

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to develop concise and effective presentations tailored to specific audiences;

  • Superior analytical skills, creativity in problem solving, and attention to detail;

  • Self-motivated and able to bring projects to conclusion;

  • Ability to manage and execute against multiple initiatives;

  • Strong relationship building and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional teams;

  • Comfort in a dynamic, fast-moving, and matrix work environment;

  • Risk Management experience preferred but not required;

  • Knowledge of financial services and/or broker-dealer business operation is helpful;

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (statistics, mathematics, physics, economics) preferred;

  • High degree of autonomy.

Technical Experience/Competencies:

  • Advanced Excel skills;

  • Advanced skills with one or more analytical tools, such as SAS EG, JMP,R ,MATLAB, Python, highly desired;

  • Experience with Oracle PL/SQL, TOAD for Oracle, SQL, VBA, Teradata a plus;

  • Understanding of a relational data model and experience in data extraction across multiple related objects/tables;

  • Knowledge of applied statistical methodologies including least squares regression, logistic regression, sampling methodologies, time series, survival analysis, cluster analysis, categorical data analysis, decisions trees, multivariate methodologies, non-parametric techniques, principal components, and linear programming techniques

  • Prior experience with reporting with a variety of tools including PowerPoint.
