Reporting to the Director of Corporate Reputation, the position will be responsible for helping to promote and protect the reputation of the Charles Schwab Corporation among key regional stakeholder audiences. This role will play a central role in building and preserving a high level of trust in the organization by proactively shaping our regional reputation as a great place to work and good corporate citizen, as well as through management of issues and crises in the region working in close partnership with the Managing Director Employee Communications.
Specific areas of responsibility will include developing and implementing a regional communications programs related to the following areas:
Local: proactive external communications – focus on Texas, and key markets
Manage day-to-day media interactions with a focus on Texas and other key markets.
Respond on the firms’ behalf to corporate media inquiries; raise the firms’ profile as an employer of choice with local press working with local leadership in Texas and other key markets.
Develop and execute a strategy and plan to earn positive company news and secure placements related to Schwab as an employer of choice, including - who we are, our growth, employment opportunities, community and corporate activities with measurable results.
Contribute to Schwab’s corporate citizenship and local efforts, by raising awareness regionally for our philanthropy, community service, social responsibility, and diversity and inclusion.
Support corporate communications campaigns, regionally, as appropriate and partner with retail acquisition PR in our top-tier markets
Crisis/issues management (local + support on national)
Communications counsel and response related to regional issues management in our key markets.
Help reduce risk for the organization by proactively identifying and planning for issues that could affect the company’s reputation, ensuring all relevant parties are engaged.
Regional campaign support
Support corporate campaign initiatives with local media to bolster Schwab’s position as a trusted partner, an innovator and technology leader in financial services.
Contribute to the redevelopment and content of the corporate website, particularly as it relates to local communications objectives.
What you’ll do:
Build strong relationships and collaborate with other communications colleagues to improve effectiveness in the region; stay abreast of opportunities and challenges impacting the company’s focus markets
Have a highly collaborative working style effectively establishing trust and respect. Able to capitalize on the collective experience and expertise of colleagues to achieve desired outcomes.
Develop knowledge of the organization, business, industry and marketplace
Be involved in coaching leaders to effectively deliver information to key audiences
Demonstrate critical thinking and strategic consideration for all stakeholders
Appropriately assess related risk and benefit for each media opportunity and recommend actions to the director of Corporate Reputation and Managing Director of Employee Communications
Possess self-starter qualities while recognizing the importance of going the extra mile
Demonstrate tactical execution, excellent project management, and organizational skills
What you have:
At least 10 years of communications experience
Bachelor’s degree required, higher degree preferred
Financial services industry experience highly preferred
Ability to work and influence successfully within a matrix environment and build effective business partnerships
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to communicate confidentially and professionally
Experience building partnerships and consulting effectively with all levels of an organization
Track record of building sustainable reputation campaigns using a cross-channel approach
Knowledge and understanding of issues management processes
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills
Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment
Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
Understanding of social media campaigns are a plus
