Position Overview

As a District Paralegal/Contracts Specialist for Kiewit, you will be responsible for providing a broad range of contract management and legal support functions on each of Kiewit Water Facilities South projects. Such support functions to include: (1) reviewing, synthesizing, and organizing each project’s contractual documents and other key project information (permits, amendments, change orders, etc.), (2) monitoring Kiewit’s contractual obligations through the life of each project, (3) maintaining organizational tools to track contractual obligations for each project, (4) assist in developing and maintaining tools to manage contracts, (5) interface with internal and external document control platforms, (6) set up and maintain software platforms for the collection and management of project data, (7) work alongside each project’s staff, district management, and In House Counsel, (8) assist in drafting project correspondence, (9) provide assistance during the negotiation of contracts for the district (for example, tracking the exchange of redlines and taking notes during negotiations), (10) perform legal research as needed. This position requires a high degree of organizational skills, professionalism, initiative, accuracy, and precision. We are looking for a team player who has the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines, milestones, objectives, and exhibits attention to detail and adaptability.

District Overview

Kiewit's Water Facilities South group is one of Kiewit's leading water/wastewater districts specializing in constructing water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, and desalination plants. Although we are headquartered in Westlake, TX (DFW area), with regional offices in Miami FL and Atlanta GA, we also pursue various projects stretching across the country. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design. Location

Westlake, TX (DFW area) – with the ability to travel to projects in the Texas and Southeast region on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

Under supervision of the Senior Contracts Manager and while working with project management staff and in house counsel this person will:

  • Perform activities related to the identification, preservation, organization, and analysis of information pertaining to assigned contract matters.

  • Assist in drafting and organizing project correspondence (and legal correspondence).

  • Provide support to Senior Contract Manager for all assigned agreements within his/her area including drafting of internal memos and drafting/tracking project (and legal) correspondence.

  • Assist in development of contract management best practices for the district.

  • Support Senior Contracts Manager, business leads, and In House Counsel with contract negotiations for the district.

Qualifications

A candidate should have and demonstrate:

  • At least 3 years of experience working as a Paralegal with a law firm or legal department for a large company.

  • Paralegal certification from a nationally accredited paralegal certificate program.

  • Experience drafting and managing legal correspondence and legal memos.

  • Knowledge of legal materials, legal terms, legal processes, etc. and the ability to develop tools that reference or relate to legal terms, legal processes, and legal materials.

  • The ability to collaborate, connect, and build relationships with others both inside and outside the organization.

  • Ability to coordinate with a variety of corporate departments.

  • Ability to work independently and think analytically with minimal oversight.

  • Strong organizational skills and emphasis on attention to details.

  • Strong skills with Excel and the ability to quickly learn about and utilize various software platforms utilized by Kiewit, including document control platforms.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office 365 suite.
