Oversees a group of technical employees responsible for the analysis, design, construction, inspection, installation, timing, repair, maintenance and testing of traffic systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and related components. Manages or supervises technical and administrative employees. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Develops operating procedures for traffic control, ITS, illuminations or systems equipment installation, maintenance and repairDevelops short- and long- term plans for upgrading and modifying traffic signals, signs and illumination systems;coordinates with district design staff to develop solutions to traffic problems.Directs inspection of the work of traffic systems and ITS technicians.Investigates background of public complaints concerning traffic signal and illumination problems; recommends solutionsand provides information on progress to solve problems.Oversees specific traffic systems-related programs.Prepares, coordinates and monitors consultant contract administration for traffic systems and ITS.Troubleshoots and develops solutions for problems with traffic signals, illumination devices, traffic systems and/or datacollection systems.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
